From Me to Thee Clement

I picked up this early 1929 edition of 'All Quiet on the Western Front' from a charming independent book shop in Nottingham and was delighted to find this incredibly beautiful message on the inside cover. It brings up so many questions about the original owner of this fantastic book. Who was Clement? Was this a gift to him, or did he give it to another? I'd love to know the answer to these questions, but of course, it will be impossible to know. This book has now become a true treasure of mine.

Images from the striking and beautiful Orpheus project by Kim Wilkie at Boughton House, Northamptonshire. The massive earthwork sinks deep into the ground, with a gently sloping ramp spiralling into the ground towards a reflecting pool. The effect is very impressive, the visitor sees only the sky and there is a profound sense of calm. The project sits comfortably amongst the historical earthworks, lakes and avenues of the estate.

Flessenboot by Floris Hovers

Flessenboot 2011

A beautifully simple toy by Dutch designer Floris Hovers. Inspired by observing the fact that children are often more interested in the packaging rather than the toy itself, his individually hand-made sails can be attached to empty shampoo bottles and it is then up to the child's imagination to bring the toy to life.
